Journalist Gabby Burke (OSU), a 0-star delegate shares about her journey in politics and journalism. Burke shared how after going through some hardships throughout her life is what inspired her to continue on in politics. “I got this urge to help serve other people, so I got into political science,” said Burke.

Burke is currently a freshman political science major at Oklahoma State University. When speaking on her experience in OIL, she said that her professor recommended her to join OIL. “Whenever it came to doing journalism, I just was kind of told I could see everything if I did journalism, and I had some experience in writing,” said Burke in regard to her OIL experience. OIL has been a great experience for her, and she says that her favorite part is “all of the incredible people I have met and befriended.”

Burke does have experience in journalism. “When I was in high school, I started writing online for fun, and I got a few publications in various magazines.” Utilizing her skills from her publications has helped her tremendously in starting her OIL journey. Staying in this field has helped her open her eyes more to the continuous political state of the world.

In regard to what has kept her interested in politics, Burke said that “the world is constantly evolving and changing, and I think you can always find something to stay in touch with, but I think also you can always find people who need help and people to serve.” Staying in touch with how the world is changing is important and needed especially for those going into policy.

Burke wants to continue in politics, and eventually work in policy writing after college.
