Renner Howell

About Lt. Governor Howell

Lieutenant Governor Howell joined the organization in the Fall 2021 session as a member of the University of Oklahoma delegation. He competed in the House of Representatives, and the Moot Court competition, the latter of which he placed first in. He served as OU’s Director of Moot Court, where he coached delegates to perform very well in that component of the competition. Leadership roles he has held in the organization include Legislative Committee Chair in both the House and Senate, Linguistics Committee member in the Senate, Assistant Legal Counsel in the Senate, Assistant Secretary of State, Assistant Attorney General, Attorney General and Associate Justice on the Supreme Court. He currently attends the University of Tulsa College of Law.

What does the Lieutenant Governor do?

The Lieutenant Governor has many responsibilities; their primary governmental function is to serve as acting Governor in the Governor’s absence. They also serve as the honorary President of the Senate.

 

Within the Lieutenant Governor’s role in the organization, they serve as the Vice Chair of the Steering Committee and the Board of Directors. Their primary organizational responsibility, however, is to plan each session’s activity pass, providing the meals, entertainment, and networking opportunities throughout session. Secondly, the Lieutenant Governor oversees the Ofelia Chavoya Community Service Competition.
