Who’s excited for session?

By: Journalist Lilian Fuchs (ECU)

Rep. Yang (TU) and Rep. Jolliff (TU)

The first day of session is one of the most exciting days.

With so many people attending session this year, there are a lot of ideas about what the best part is. It’s important to hear from all star counts regarding what they are looking forward to the most.

The most common thing that zero-star delegates are looking forward to is meeting new people with their own opinions.

Representative Jorja Ely, a zero star from ECU, said she is excited for her first session.

“I’m excited to hear different bills and also hear what opinions the other delegates bring, it is interesting to hear all the different opinions people have,” Ely said.

High star counts are excited to bring bills to session that have been failed in the past.

Representative Caden Jolliff, a four star from TU, said she is excited to bring back a bill. It passed in the House but failed in the Senate, and Jolliff hopes it passes through both chambers this year.

During session, we will have the dress-up days. Today is “own the room.” All of the delegates, no matter what branch they are in, are encouraged to participate in all the dress-up days.

Tomorrow, the dress-up day is “Hot-person Summer.”

It is interesting to see how delegates take these prompts and turn them into an outfit that fits the OIL dress code. When delegates participate in the dress-up days, they always find outfits that not only align with the prompt but also represent who they are as a person. Clothing speaks, and the delegates prove that.

Everyone is looking forward to what this session has to offer, and no matter the star count everyone is looking forward to gaining more experiences that will help them in the future.
