Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature is the student-run mock government that replicates all three branches of the state government of Oklahoma.
With the numerous things that happen in OIL like legislation being passed, debates going on and business being conducted, the delegates make time for some fun.
Throughout the session, numerous jokes have been made, but only a few were on par. Here are the top five jokes made during the second session of the 51st legislature.
Number 5: “What do you call a cow riding an elevator? Raising the steaks.”
You can’t go wrong with dad jokes. They go two ways: You’ll get a laugh from the crowd or you’ll get a groan from the crowd because of how cringy the dad joke was. This joke was where the crowd just groaned because of how much of a “dad joke” this was, but still earned its spot in the top five.
Number 4: “When a woman is giving birth, she is literally kidding.”
This was one of the first few jokes told before the joint session started. With a switch up of a “mom joke” instead of a “dad joke,” this joke was unexpected and got a round of applause from the representatives, and this deserved to be number four for
Number 3: “What do you call a cow with no legs? Ground beef.”
This a classic dad joke that everyone knows and loves. Though it is another cow-related joke, it still brought a smile to delegates’ faces. As much as delegates wanted to be quick to the punch line, they heard the joke through and everyone laughed.
Number 2: “What does a buffalo say to his son? Bison!”
With the buffalo as Oklahoma’s state animal, this joke was fitting to the OIL delegation which why this is high on the As this joke is another dad joke, the room was divided. Half of the room laughed at the joke while half of the room groaned at how cringy the joke was.
Number 1: “Corey in the House”
Before Governor Corey Shirey walked into chambers for join session, a representative from the house asked the chairs “Is it in the chair’s opinion that when Governor Shirey enters he will be “Corey in the House?” From the zero stars who have never attended a session before, the room erupted in applause and laughter.
The reason this joke receives the top joke of OIL is that representatives who have attended the previous sessions have heard this joke numerous times, but yet still laughed.
