During the First Session of the Fifty-Third Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature, everything was running according to plan except when it came to locating Governor Nathan Barnett, which the lieutenant Governor Kurt LeVan appointed three members from the senate to locate the Governor. In an extensive search of more than ten rooms, the Governor was found by Senator Brandt Von Atzigen from the Oral Roberts University delegation, who found the Governor in the senate room hiding behind a trash can. When the Governor was asked about why he was hiding, Governor Barnett said, “I just felt like hiding. I didn’t want to be found,” as he slowly entered the chamber, but Senator Atzigen had a look of pure joy knowing that he got the joint session rolling after finding the runaway Governor Nathan Barnett.
