About Governor Schonfield

Governor Schonfield is a Senior History Major, with a Minor in Constitutional Studies, at The University of Oklahoma. He is a Nine Star who served two consecutive semesters as House Chief Clerk Administrator from Fall 2023 – Spring 2024. He was then elected as Speaker of the House and served in this role from Fall 2024 – Spring 2025. He now serves as the 56th Governor of O.I.L. where he plans and coordinates all organizational events. His number one priority this year is to ensure that there are open lines of communication between delegations and statewide leadership, and that every member of the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature feels their voice is being heard. He wants to provide additional resources for every delegation in the organization so that the organization may continue to improve the experience it provides its delegates for years to come.

What does the
Governor do?

The Governor is the “Chief Magistrate” of the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature, and is therefore the responsible officer for all actions of the Organization, especially the Executive Branch.

The Governor’s primary responsibilities are overseeing the actions of all officers of the Executive Branch, planning each regular and special session, and planning all meetings of the Delegation Council, Steering Committee, and the Board of Directors.

Similar to the actual Governor, our Governor also signs or vetoes all legislation, may issue executive orders, and gives the annual “State of the State” address at the beginning of each regular session.
