Various members of the House of Representatives dancing along to Footloose
With the first full day of session in full swing, attendance at a recent high, and overall 0-1 star representation making up a majority, day two of session has been all but slow.
Events, bills, debate, caucusing, confusion, exhaust, and every other government-related verb and adjective possible, the summarization alone is storied and memorable. With Senate abruptly moved to function at the Credit Union House of Oklahoma, and House and Moot’s competitions moved to the Holiday Inn & Suites Oklahoma City North, sparks of confusion and excitement filled the air.
Senator Jake Ervin (NWOSU) marveled at the opportunity the craziness had brough the organization. Praising the pace and debate within the senate thus far, both members new and old have contributed to setting the benchmark of an “efficient” and “impressive” senate to come.
Yet, a successfaul senate is incomplete without the opposing dichotomous house, that of which held equal eventual affairs. With “freshmen catching on quick”, and bills getting deliberated quicker, Representative Adam Clifton (OBU) has nothing but praise and optimism moving forward.
Speaking on more familiar grounds, the press competition is underway and hastilily progressing. Media of all forms has been submitted and the creative boasts no bounds. Diverse media abound, members of the press such as Lauren Sherrer (OU) have portrayed nothing but positivity and joyfulness towards their experiences thus far, appreciating the press for its ability to advance her knowledge in “the legislature process”, submitting creative and unique pieces to match.
Undismayed by the location adjustment, Moot competitor Jacob Castro (OSU), went as far as appreciating the variation for the newfound “right mindset”, saying it “sets the energy of what O.I.L. is”. Practice rounds have come to a conclusion, and competitors look onward with wide ranges of nerves and excitement.
An equally informative and entertaining lunch reception by TU law broke up the events of the day, featuring catering by McCalister’s Deli, an appreciated break for all.
Following the formal competition events, an alumni reception, boasting host to equally amazing orderves and credible O.I.L. alumn was held in the Credit Union House of Oklahoma. The event featured an incredibly talented and credible cast of past O.I.L. competitors, and featured the election results for the running of Governor, with TU’s own Evan Shaw being named victor.
Day two has left nothing but bright futures ahead for all. As newcomers grow more comfortable, and all begin to settle in to their respective roles and competitions, O.I.L. as a whole looks onward toward another exciting and competitive session.
