Piper Reese (OSU)
After caucusing and debates, representatives get the opportunity to recess for five minutes after every bill is heard. During recess, Speaker of the House, Ashley Schultz decides to play music to let representatives relax and jam out to her playlist. While her playlist (in my opinion) has been fantastic so far, here are a few suggestions that can make the House playlist even better.
My Shot from Hamilton: An American Musical
Let’s face it: anything from the Hamilton soundtrack would be fitting for Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature. My Shot in particular is a great pump-up song for delegates to not throw away their shot during caucusing and questions. It gets the house up and going and gets them pumped up to hear the next bill on the floor.
*Note: This song has already been played and indeed got people pumped for the following bill.
Any song by Beyonce
Beyonce is a timeless classic. Single Ladies would be appropriate for today’s House fashion day, Stoplight day (green for single, yellow for complicated, red for taken). Formation with it’s exciting and catchy melody can get anybody out of their seats and singing along. For our ladies out there, Run the World (Girls) is the ANTHEM for all the women in Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature leadership and for delegates who aspire to take on leadership roles.
Bang! by AJR
Bang! by AJR is an upbeat song that lets people know they should “go out with a bang.” The lyrics “So put your best face on, everybody. Pretend you know this song, everybody come hang, let’s go out with a bang,” encourages listeners to basically “fake it til you make it,” and sometimes that’s what you have to do in life.
Any song off of this “coming of age nostalgia” playlist on SpotifyRecently, this playlist has been my go-to playlist when I want to listen to something and feel like the main character of an up and coming movie. Songs like Out of My League by Fitz and the Tantrums, Midnight City by M83, and Ribs by Lorde are all amazing songs when delegates want to feel like the main character during the session.
