Highlights and the Importance of OIL’s Fashion Days
Fashion days are always a highlight of session. From the moment they’re announced, they’re the subject of conversation among almost every delegation. They play an important role in the social aspect of OIL as they give new and old delegates alike a way to meet new people. Many delegates look at them fondly, including the Senate President Pro Tempore Jonathan Curtis, AG Craig Sagle, and Speaker of the House Ashley Schultz.
What do fashion days mean to you?
Pres Pro Jonathan Curtis: It’s an opportunity for us to branch out from the constraints of professional attire. You know, it lets us channel pop culture and what’s going on, make jokes with what we’re wearing, and wear something new every day. And drama. It gives us drama. I wear yellow just to cause drama.
Alondra Perez: It means a bunch of things. I think fashion days are a way to bring fun to such a serious and professional environment. We’re all still young, but we’re here to compete. It pushes teamwork, group participation, and it makes people involved! It also helps with the dress code for those who don’t necessarily have tons of professional wear.
It’s a good way for us to express ourselves, and it helps people show their personality even when they have to wear stuffy suits. Personally, I never would have worn these boots or worn glitter on my face if not for the fashion days!
(Editor’s Note: I took some liberties with the photos I had of the boots because they were too fabulous for a drab tile floor!)
Ashley Schultz: I think fashion days create a sense of unity in the chamber, and bring a more fun aspect to session. And they make packing a lot easier! I am very glad we had stoplight day for my last session because I’d never been able to wear red before!
Craig Slagle: For me, fashion days are an opportunity to capture the essence of the fun and the spirit of the delegates of OIL. It’s great that people can express themselves, and I, for one, find joy in it. I remember one of the first fashion days that I had was “Wednesdays We Wear Pink”.
Coincidentally, I had a prom two years before where I bought a pink suit, and in my luck, I was prepared to wear a full, light pink suit to my first session. That’s a favorite memory of mine. Some of the other highlights of Euphoria Day:
