I love exploring downtowns in other states. Chicago. Dallas. New Orleans. Looking straight up to the sky and at tall skyscrapers. Watching strangers move hurriedly. Listening to the heavy traffic. There is no other feeling like being somewhere brand new. It is completely unfamiliar. There is the possibility of getting lost. You can be anyone you want to be. Forget about your worries and responsibilities, if only for a moment.
Despite being born and raised in Oklahoma City, the entertainment downtown is what I am most excited about! I know, I know. It’s not something that only happens once a year. It’s not particularly the most exciting. In addition, you only got four hours of sleep last night and you are not sure if Batman and Superman are worth your precious hours of sleep. However, for Thursday night, you get to be a resident of Oklahoma City! If the movie doesn’t interest you, checking out downtown definitely should. When I moved to another city, I was disappointed. Their downtown was only business! What kind of city does not have a thriving downtown?
What else does downtown have to offer besides a movie theatre? I’m glad you asked! We have restaurants for any appetite (especially when you have been dreaming of a meal for the last four hours of session). We have local shops for your large college student budget! You cannot forget to check out our brand new arcade: Brickopolis! And once the movie is over, take a stroll with that boy in the green tie and head on down the canal, on a guided tour! Or maybe take the girl in the green pants in a horse carriage to the Botanical Gardens. Adventure awaits you downtown!
Oklahoma City will always be my favorite city. Maybe I am a bit biased, but my guests always emphasize to me how much they loved going downtown. Once you interact with the people, feel the energy of Thunder fans, and take advantage of all of the opportunities at excitement and fun, I promise you will not regret it.
