Bill Names and the Songs That Match Them

Journalist: Sydni Callaway (OSU)

As session comes to a close, and upon reflection of the bills heard throughout the last five days, there were times that certain titles of bills would remind me of songs. Here are some pieces of legislation and the songs that match them.

  1. Senate Bill No. OBU-006, also known as the “Senior Driver Assessment” Act of 2025 proposed by Sen. Wells (OBU).

The song that matches this bill title is “Drivers License” by Olivia Rodrigo. The bill suggests a new law that when every driver reaches the age of 60, they must undergo an eye exam as well as a drivers license examination.

  1. Senate Bill No. OSU-002, “Where else would they go” Act of 2025, presented by Sen. Caves (OSU).

The song that matches this bill is “bury a friend” by Billie Eilish. The reason this song matches is due to the lyrics “when we all fall asleep, where do we go?” in the chorus of the song.

  1. Senate Bill No. OSU-003, “How to Break Up With Your Goldfish” Act of 2025, authored by Sen. Friesen (OSU).

For this bill, the song that matches it is “break up with your girlfriend, I’m bored” by Ariana Grande. The similarity of the structure of the title of the bill as well as the title of the song is the reason this Ariana Grande song was selected.

  1. Senate Bill No. TU-003, “You Grow Girl” Act of 2025, authored by Sen. Gifford (TU).

Due to the title being similar to lyrics, the song that matches this bill is “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” by Shania Twain. She starts the song with “lets go girls”, where the inspiration of this song selection comes from.

  1. House Bill No. OBU-503, “The Free Bird Flight to Freedom” Act of 2025, in authorization by Rep. Nguyen (OBU).

As in the bill, the author asks a new law to be put into place exempting those from speed limit restrictions while “Free Bird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd is playing. This song is defined in the bill, which is why the selection stays the same as stated.

  1. House Bill No. ORU-513, “Boomer Sooner Day” Act of 2025, proposed by Rep. Mensah–Woode.

Clearly speaking that this bill was to enact a national holiday for the University of Oklahoma football and softball team, the selection may be quite obvious. “Boomer Sooner (with Go-Go)” by the Pride of Oklahoma, which is the university’s fight song, is quite obviously the selection for this bill.

  1. House Bill No. OSU-505, “Let it Grow” Act of 2025 proposed by Rep. Covey (OSU).

Quite obviously, you might have also thought of this song. “Let It Grow”, from “The Lorax” most likely popped up when thinking of a song that matches this title.
