Rep. Isaiah Osei (ORU), a three-star delegate from Oral Roberts University, is heavily involved in OIL. As co-floor leader, freshman liaison and vice chair for ORU, Osei has been a prominent member of the House of Representative and delegate in the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature. Osei was originally a member of the press, but during his first session he switched completely to the House.
When asked about his favorite things about session, Osei said “my favorite part is probably interacting with different delegates from different schools. I love interacting with people that have different opinions than me, seeing their perspective and oftentimes them changing their opinions.” Osei describes OIL as an amazing experience, “it really helps you be a better person, a more well-rounded person,” said Osei. Highlighting learning about others, Osei highlights how OIL can make you a better person and worker.
Osei is also a political science major with a minor in strategic media. At ORU, OIL is a class on the degree plan to graduate for political science majors. “My first session, going into session, I actually hated OIL because I thought it was really boring. I didn’t really know what we were getting into, but coming to session really changed the perspective instead of it just being a class we didn’t wanna be in,” said Osei. His perspective has since then changed as he found his passion in being fully a member of the House and seeing the true meaning of being a delegate.
As Osei is a “people person”, he describes more about his perspective on life. “I like working with others, and you know like I said seeing their perspective, I like to be a light to those around me” said Osei. Osei’s passion for OIL is seen through his kindness to others in session. OIL is a great opportunity to learn more about interacting with others, as well as improving yourself in everyday life.
