Governor-Elect Nathan Barnett is next in line to be the Governor of the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature (O.I.L.).  Gov. Lacey Hickey nominated him. Although he expected the nomination because he had announced his candidacy, he did not expect the moving speech she gave about him. Gov-elect. Barnett is looking forward to pushing new ideas in O.I.L., working on some exciting projects with the Press Corps, and seeing how life after the pandemic will influence the use of technology in O.I.L.

As an Applied-Sociology Major, Gov-elect. Barnett wants to see more diverse majors participate in O.I.L. He said to get more people involved, the mock-government needs to show that there is more to it than politics. Many elements make up O.I.L., and everyone can find a way to present what they are interested in. His specific interest was criminal justice, and he is confident that many delegates can attest to that.

Gov-elect. Barnett has had some impressive roles in O.I.L., including his former role as the Attorney General. He has also been the Acting Attorney General, Deputy, Attorney General, and Senator, to name a few more of his former roles. With a record like that, it is clear that Gov-elect. Barnett is substantially qualified to be the Governor. The experience he has from those previous roles can be carried into his new role and will undoubtedly benefit how he leads and makes decisions. On a more personal level, Gov-elect. Barnett considers his stepdad to be his biggest inspiration. His stepdad is the former Vice President of a company in Tulsa, and he strives for greatness in all that he does. The two are similar in that manner because Gov-elect. Barnett strives for excellence too. He measures his success with results, whether or not he achieved his goals, and how he has influenced the organization.

The Gov-elect loves vacationing in Washington D.C. because of all the museums, and in his words, “Because it’s a fun city!”

Congratulations Gov-elect. Barnett, on your new role!
