Livestock and Safety Practices

As many Oklahomans know, Oklahoma is deep into agriculture. From the Foundation of Agriculture it states that by 1907 Oklahoma had 62,000 Farms already.

The culture of agriculture is something that is incredibly important to Oklahoma. It is something that is the state and will always be the state.

This is what this bill is trying to do to continue that culture.

You may ask what this bill is trying to do?

Well this is House Bill OSU 533, or otherwise known as the “Livestock Longevity” Act of 2026 authored by Rep. Lockhart (OSU).

This bill helped standardize the practices of artificial reproduction; to ensure that livestock is well taken care of and not abused.

The way the author does this is as the following:

First, this means that all people who have livestock, who specifically use artificial reproduction, have to use the best practices.

Second, is that if this person is using livestock as a means of compensation. They have to have a certificate in order to use artificial reproduction.

Third, the service provider has to keep records of the animal, and what specific methods of artificial reproduction were used on that livestock.

Then lastly, the bill states that within it the producer’s own herd is not limited or expanded with the methods of reproduction.

The author states that all of this oversight will be seen by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry.

The house seemed to be wary of the bill, many did not understand what this bill meant. This led many to be confused.

But the author explained how this bill would work within Oklahoma and how it would better it.

This led to the body to vote in favor of this bill, allowing it to pass and head to the Senate.
