What is it about Trevor Friesen that makes him so likable? Is it his demeanor? Is it his
style? What could it be? In this article, I hope to properly introduce Trevor Friesen.
When I first heard Trevor speak, I knew he was that one guy everyone wants to be friends
with. Out of the whole senate, he seemed like the one guy who knew how to properly relax. After
he met with all of the zero-to-one-star delegates, I could tell he genuinely cared about everyone
at session and wants everyone to have the best time.
For the profile piece, I knew that I wanted to interview Trevor. I asked Trevor three
questions during the interview: “what made you join OIL, how did you progress, and what would
you say to encourage anyone who hesitant to join OIL?”. He told me that he joined in the spring
of his freshman year and found OIL through his student government. Just like many freshmen
delegates, Trevor felt a little worried for his first session. “I actually joined the press because I
was quite intimidated by much of the competition and much of what OIL was”. It was during his
time in press that Trevor found his love of legislation. After presenting his first bill, he decided to
study abroad. When Trevor came back, he was given the opportunity to join the senate and,
despite feeling uncomfortable, decided to join. After some time and hard work, OSU’s OIL chose
him as their senator coach and won in the senate during the session of that year. Trever stated
that one of the main reasons that he comes back every year is for the people and because he loves
bringing a diverse perspective to session.
For new members who are a little hesitant to join OIL Trevor said, “Just have no fear to
get started”. He added that he did not know much about state government and chose to join the
press. He finished by saying the biggest step in his OIL career was “stepping away from the fear
in public speaking, meeting people, and taking stances on my political beliefs. In my opinion, Trevor is so easy to like because of how genuine, down to earth, and low
stress he is. Trevor is a great example of someone who was initially worried about being in OIL
and climbed the ladder to be where he is today.
