Kate Clark’s Passion for Others Brought Into OIL

Rep. Kate Clark, a zero-star lobbyist delegate from Oklahoma State University, shares insight on her experience so far in OIL. As an Edmond native, she has always wanted to attend OSU. Clark is a political science major, which influenced her to become a part of the OSU delegation of OIL.

Clark has a goal of entering into legislation, with an aim of making a difference in others’ lives. Her interest peaks in civil rights as well as fixing oversights for vulnerable people. Her passion for helping others is shown in her bills.

She is presenting House Bill No. OSU-546, which is a bill that focuses on lifeguard accountability. Joined with Rep. Hannah Sorrell (OSU), House Bill No. OSU-546 aims to ensure that lifeguards are properly certified. The bill was created to ensure that all pools must report the certification of their lifeguards. Clark said that her aim with the bill is “to protect lower income areas from negligence.”

The other bill she is presenting, House Bill No. OSU–504, is about childcare facilities and daycares. The bill is aimed to mandate that childcare facilities notify parents or guardians that a violation has occurred and has been filed in the state. In confirmation of a violation, the mandated reporting would go into effect immediately. “It continues another part of the legislation that we already have”, Clark said in reference to her bill with Sorrell.

In preparing to present her bills to the House, there is nervousness as this is the first time Clark will be doing something like this. “I’m nervous and excited because this is something I am passionate about, and I am excited to see what others have to say”, Clark said. Both of her bills include ensuring safety, which shows her dedication to helping others. As she waits for both of her bills to be heard, she continues to prepare to fight for those who are vulnerable.
