About Governor Clifton
Governor Clifton joined the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature in the Fall of 2021 as a freshman at Oklahoma Baptist University where he served as a member in the House of Representatives. He served in the House as Floor Leader in 2022-2023 and then was elected to serve as the Speaker of the House for the 2023-2024 sessions. He has served in every leadership role in the House aside from assistant clerk and chief clerk. Along with competing in the House of Representatives, Governor Clifton also competed in Moot Court in the Spring of 2022 where he placed fourth. He now serves as the 55th Governor of O.I.L. where he plans and coordinates all organizational events.
What does the
Governor do?
The Governor is the “Chief Magistrate” of the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature, and is therefor the responsible officer for all actions of the Organization, especially the Executive Branch.
The Governor’s primary responsibilities are overseeing the actions of all officers of the Executive Branch, planning each regular and special session, and planning all meetings of the Steering Committee and the Board of Directors.
Similarly to the actual Governor, our Governor also signs or vetoes all legislation, may issue executive orders, and gives the annual “State of the State” address at the beginning of each regular session.
