This piece was inspired by Speaker Pro Tempore Maddy Cantrell’s (ALU) Thursday speech on Swig, Mormonism and The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.

The show may not be as impassioned as O.I.L., but with some careful consideration, here are five quotes that reflect the spirit of the 2nd session of the 56th Legislature.

  1. “Keep Coming! Who’s Next?” – Lisa Barlow

Barlow, without realizing it, delivered the perfect quote to describe the Senate’s streak of rejecting House bills. This quote, however, is only the beginning of the chamber feud this session.

  1. “When The Microphone Comes Out, You Know There’s A Problem,” – Jen Shah

Shah’s words capture how each delegate feels when approaching the dais. Every delegate brings one or more bills aimed at solving a problem in Oklahoma. When the microphone comes out, be prepared.

  1. “Hi, baby gorgeous,” – Lisa Barlow

Both chambers can relate to this quote, thanks to the runway fashion shows. Each delegate — Senate or House — strutted in their best looks and was met with cheers from fellow delegates proud of their “babies.”

  1. “Receipts. Proof. Timeline. Screenshots,” Heather Gay

If a delegate wants to get their bill to pass the chambers, they ought to have everything mentioned in the above quote ready. Though when it comes to less serious topics like the game on bill, one’s source can be that they made it up.

  1. “You can leave,” – Meredith Marks

Without a doubt this is one of the biggest applicable quotes to the 2nd session 56th legislature. Each time a Senator tried to enter the House, swift action was taken to remove them and shame was brought upon them.

Whether the Senate plans to retaliate is yet to be known.
