The Executive Branch of the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature consists of the elected offices of Governor, Lt. Governor, Treasurer, and Attorney General. In addition, there are a number of appointed positions under the executive branch, most notably the Secretary of State and the Governor’s cabinet.
The Governor is the leader of the organization, and has all of the duties and responsibilities that go along with that, such as organizing session and working to make it successful, as well as ensuring the other leaders are doing their jobs, especially those on the Governor’s cabinet.
The Lt. Governor’s official duty is to be the President of the Senate, but OIL precedence calls for the Lt. Governor to also be in charge of all of the philanthropic endeavors of the organization, and organizing the official social events of the organization, such as the “entertainment pass” activities and the Governor’s ball / roast.
Historically, the Attorney General’s official duties include representing the leadership in internal OIL lawsuits, and rendering official legal opinions upon the request of any member. Recently, they have also become in charge of the Journalism program.
